The emotion and exhaustion behind the anger that many only choose to see is fueled by love. I want this piece to embody that love. Love of family. Love of self. Some of my dearest friends are all mothers of young African-American men. They shoulder so many feelings of hurt, fear, despair that is the fuel to any anger or resentment. Their sons can not think about their future the same as others because the promises under our constitution does necessarily provide them the same protections in their pursuit of happiness. The disbelief from knowing that he has to fight for his own existence is what you see on his face. Why is the Black Lives Matter sign down? Because in this moment they were taking a rest.
